Alcoholic Slushies

Summer is here and that means it's going to get hot, really hot. There are many ways to try and beat the heat and drinks tend to be most people’s go to choice at the end of a long day so here are four different drinks that will help you unwind and cool down. Many people choose to go with a refreshing white wine or a beer but these alcoholic slushies serve as a reminder of the simpler days of getting a slush puppy at your local convenience store.

 Rocket Pop Slushie

This drink is a play on the rocket pops of your youth, the red white and blue tiers of these popsicles are iconic and they were always my go to on a hot summer day. This is an adult twist on an old classic and it will involve a number of ingredients so get out your blender and measuring cup and get ready!

Red Layer

1 ½ Oz Raspberry vodka (UV Red)

3 Oz Red Fruit Punch (Hawaiian punch etc.)

½ Oz Grenadine

White Layer

1 ½ Oz Coconut rum (Malibu or Bacardi Coconut) *Note the Malibu will result in a sweeter drink

3 Oz Pina Colada mix (Don’t go with an alcoholic mix, any simple juice will work fine)

Blue Layer

1 Oz Blue Raspberry Vodka (UV Blue)

½ Oz Blue Curacao

3 Oz Blue Gatorade

Assembly

Add ½ cup of ice, Raspberry vodka, fruit punch juice and grenadine into a blender. Blend on high until smooth and add to a Collins glass

Add more ice if necessary or to adjust to your preferred thickness

Add ½ cup ice, coconut rum and pina colada mix to the blender. Blend on high until smooth and gently scoop on top of the red layer

Add ½ cup ice, blue raspberry vodka, blue curacao, and blue Gatorade to the blender and blend on high until smooth. Once again gently ladle onto the white layer

Add a straw (preferably a metal one) and enjoy

Pina Colada

Ingredients

~3 cups ice

1 ½ Oz Creme of coconut

1 ½ Oz pineapple juice

2 cups freshly cubed pineapple

1 ½ Oz White Rum

Assembly

Add in cubed pineapple followed by the ice to ensure an easy blend, then add in creme of coconut, pineapple juice, and white rum

Blend on high until it reaches your desired consistency (generally you want it to be fine as to avoid pineapple chunks)

Garnish with a pineapple chunk or a maraschino cherry and enjoy

Strawberry Daiquiri

The daiquiri has an interesting history, it was born in the iron mines of daiquiri, Cuba where an American engineer created a Bacardi ratio for the workers in the mines. After some experimentation he ended up blending ingredients to create the daiquiri as we know it. This version is a little more luxurious than the daiquiri that those miners drank due to the addition of frozen strawberries and a blender but it is far more refreshing as an alcoholic slushie.

Ingredients

4 cups frozen strawberries

8 Oz white rum (traditionally Bacardi)

1 ½ freshly squeezed limes

Assembly

Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth

Garnish with a fresh strawberry or a slice of lime

Hopefully these drinks help you beat the heat this summer, make some of these for yourself or your guests and tag @thebarbible on Instagram in any photos that you post. Enjoy these cold drinks and more importantly drink responsibly!
